Laboratory Technician

Position: Laboratory Technician

Position Objective: To assist in the day to day operation of the laboratory including QC, product R&D, record keeping, general lab maintenance and policy compliance and improvements.

Reporting Relationships

Responsibilities

  1. Quality control checks on product, filling out batch documentation and QC data/records in a timely manner.
  2. Participate in research & development laboratory projects and complete associated documentation.
  3. Perform laboratory testing, generating and analysing reports.
  4. Prepare samples for analysis by mixing, blending and weighing in accordance with sample/analysis requirements and preparation methods.
  5. Operate, maintain and calibrate equipment/instruments as required.
  6. General laboratory maintenance.
  7. Ensure efficient utilisation of laboratory materials.
  8. Maintain and improve quality and food safety systems.
  9. Conduct incoming inspection, testing and approval of packaging and starting materials.
  10. Comply with site GMP Policy to ensure quality and food safety of products manufactured follow specification.
  11. Liase with other departments as required to ensure smooth processes.

General Administration

  1. Participate in staff meetings.
  2. Participate in continuous improvement processes, including internal training, accreditation. Internal Quality department audits and WHS/compliance audits, as required.
  3. Participate in performance development cycle.
  4. Adhere to the requirements of the work health and safety legislation as defined in the Workplace Health and Safety Act 2011 and the Work Health and Safety Regulations 2011, and also the firm’s WHS Management System and any customer health and safety requirements.

Deliverables

  1. Ensure R&D and QC processes comply with work instructions and quality procedures.
  2. Attend any compulsory learning and development sessions.
  3. Using the timeclock system, clock in and out each workday, completing a timeclock adjustment form where this is not possible.

Required Qualifications and Licences

Tertiary qualifications in Science (Chemistry) or Food Science or related discipline (Highly regarded but not essential).
